Growing Your Faith Through The Word
When it comes to kings, none like King David. He is arguably the most famous and successful king in history. If you had known him as a kid, you would have never expected him to become so great. Heck, as a kid not even his family thought that he would amount to much. One day the prophet Samuel arrived at David’s house and told his Father Jesse that God had chosen one of his sons to be the next king of Israel. So Jessie lined up seven of his sons and presented them to Samuel, with the exception of David. After each of Jesse’s sons passed by, God told Samuel that He was not choosing any of them. Puzzled, the prophet Samuel asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” Well there’s my youngest son David, Jesse replied. David’s own father didn’t consider him prepared or worthy enough to even be an option. So, how does David become the greatest king in the history of kings? Where did David get the wisdom and knowledge, to defeat kings that were experts in battle, and far more experienced? How did David end up with more insight and wisdom than the teachers and elders of his time? The answer is the through the Word of God.
In Psalms 119 David attributes his success to the knowledge and the application of God’s Word. In verse 105 he declares, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
Bible reading
Psalms 119:97-100 (NLT)
Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide. Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your laws. I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments.
It is simple, nothing has a greater potential of growing your faith than studying and applying God’s Word.
Heavenly Father, as I study your Word may it become a lamp to guide me and a light to direct my path in every area of my life.
