Imagine meeting with a financial advisor for the purpose of helping you manage your money. The first question the advisor should ask you is; what is your goal? Let’s say you tell the advisor that you would like to invest a portion of your money towards your children’s college fund and another portion towards your retirement. After listening to what the advisor has to say you decide to let him manage x amount of dollars. A few weeks later you contact your financial advisor and ask him, “how is my investment doing?” What would you think if his answer was, “I’m sorry to tell you but I ran into some personal financial issues and I had to spend your money”? How would you react? What would you say to him? I’m going to guess that you would be upset and you would probably tell him, “That was not your money to spend. That was my money and I gave it to you to manage on my behalf.”

The fact is that our money is truly not our money. Just think about it this way, when we die we can’t take it with us. We are merely managers of the money for a period of time; after we die someone else will get to manage it. The Bible states that God is the owner of all the wealth, and we are simply managers of that wealth for an allotted period of time.

1 Chronicles 29:10-12 NLT

“O Lord, the God of our ancestor Israel, may you be praised forever and ever! Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.

Investing money shouldn’t be such a complicated task. Actually it could be quite simple. Since we are not owners of our money but rather managers of God’s money, shouldn’t we ask God the how he would like us to manage his money? It’s that simple.

Proverbs 3:9-10 NLT

Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.

Heavenly Father, help me to be a wise steward of the finances and wealth you allow me to manage during my lifetime. They belong to you and I trust that you know better than anyone else how they should be utilized to fulfill your purposes.
