Transformation 2, Focus

There are many obstacles on the road to happiness. The biggest obstacle is called by your name. You will never be truly and consistently happy if you do not deal with your hurts, hang-ups, and bad habits. You can change jobs, your spouse, you can move to another city or even another country. However, the problem is that no matter whom you are with or where you go, your hurts, hang-ups, and bad habits go with you. The truth is that there are parts of your life that hold you back and no matter how hard you have tried you have not been able to change them. Your intentions are good but your willpower is not enough, you need something more, you need God’s power.

Here is the good news; your Heavenly Father knows that you are incapable of changing some of your hurts, hang-ups, and bad habits. The even better news is that He is willing and able to give you the necessary tools to make those changes. In yesterday’s post we discovered that God wants to transform us by renewing our mind. God knows that if we can think differently then we will act differently. If we act differently we will achieve different results. Since what we focus on determines how we think, we need to learn to focus on the right things.

Yesterday we said that we should focus on:

  1. Changing one defect at a time.
  2. Focus on victory one day at a time.

Today we will look at two more areas of focus that God wants to use to change your way of thinking. Tomorrow we will look at three more.

  1. Focus on God’s power and not your willpower.

Can a leopard change its spots? It seems just as unlikely that you will change your ways and do good, when you are so used to doing evil—it has become such a part of you. Jeremiah 13:23

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 NKJ

  1. Focus on the good things not the bad ones.

=And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 NLT

And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. – Jesus , John 8:32 NLT
