The first thing that comes to peoples mind when they hear the word worship is the church and music. Music and church are a form of worship, but worship transcends these. Simply stated, to worship is to bow down before and to surrender to someone or something. Worship has more to do with what or whom we serve rather than the church we go to or the songs we sing.

Everyone worships. Everyone bows down to or serves someone or something it is not just a church thing. There are people who worship themselves. They bow down to their bodies and emotions becoming servants to their feelings, pleasures, and desires. There are those who worship popularity becoming servants to others. They bow down to what others want, say, do, or believe in order to gain popularity. Some worship things, fame, fortune, and a whole host of other things. God however says, I want you to worship me. Worship will always be about who or what you choose to bow down to, and who or what you choose to serve. There will always be two choices when speaking of worship; you can worship God or self.

Luke 4:5-8 NLT

Then the devil took him up and revealed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. “I will give you the glory of these kingdoms and authority over them,” the devil said, “because they are mine to give to anyone I please. I will give it all to you if you will worship me. ”Jesus replied, “The Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.”

For Jesus the choice was clear. It was not a matter of choosing between worshiping satan and worshiping God; it was choosing between God and self. Will I make this about my self or will I continue to worship God? The choice for Jesus was obvious; He would worship and serve God.

Worship will always boil down to two choices. Will I bow down to my self or will I bow down to God? Will I serve my self or will I serve God? God wants to be first in your life. God wants you to bow down and serve only him. God wants you to acknowledge and recognize that His ways are better than your ways. God wants you to know that each time you choose to worship and serve Him, you benefit. Jesus chose to serve God and not self and the results speak for themselves. When He appeared in human form, He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminals’ sentence on the cross. God in turn, elevated Him to the highest place of honor and gave Him a name above all names. At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow in heaven, on earth, and under the earth and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. Amen!
Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I bow to something or someone other than you, I want to live in a way that honors you, praising and worshiping you  at all times and in all places. I want to live on my knees before you, acknowledging that you are the Lord and King of my life.
