To act in ignorance and then call it faith is to act prematurely. God’s purpose for your life needs time to grow and to fully mature. When Nehemiah arrived in Jerusalem to rebuild its walls, he well could have jumped right into action. However, before he uttered a single word, before he sprung into action, he decided to investigate. He decided to quietly and privately study and analyze the situation. Few things have greater potential to derail God’s purpose for your life as does acting prematurely. It is similar to a chick inside the shell; if it is born prematurely, it may be born weak and only live a few hours. The same is true concerning God’s purpose for your life.

  • Our tendency is to start fast. God’s tendency is to take His time.
  • Our tendency is to seek a quick victory and then end up overwhelmed. In God’s calling for our lives, we begin overwhelmed and end up marveled as we watch Him lead us to victory.
  • Our tendency is to begin with emotion and end up frustrated. God’s way begins with lots of frustration and ends up with lots of emotion as we witness His wonder working power in and through our lives.
  • Our tendency is to begin with action and then pray when things do not work out. God’s way begins with prayer followed by Godly guided action.

Habakkuk 2:2-3 NLT

“Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.”

Acting prematurely is not an act of faith. Acting prematurely is an act of ignorance. We must learn to seek God and to wait patiently for Him. He is never too early and he is never too late.

Lamentations 3:25 NKJ

The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,

To the soul who seeks Him.
