What came first, the chicken or the egg? Throughout the history of the world, mankind has questioned how we came into existence. Some argue that we are the result of the ‘Big Band Theory” which scientist believe is the strongest explanation for the existence of the universe. At its simplest, the Big Bang Theory posits that the universe began with a small singularity that over the course of approximately 14 billion years expanded through a series of random explosions into the cosmos and formed the universe, as we know it today. There is only one major flaw with this theory, where did the time, space, and matter that formed the universe come from?

Another argument concerning the beginnings of the universe is one that I, and most believers subscribe to, the Theory of Creationism. This theory is the belief in an all-powerful God who exists outside of time, space, and matter and who is the creator of all time, space, and matter. Believers do not believe that we are the result of a series of random explosions; we believe that God created us on purpose and for a purpose. We believe that our purpose is to have a relationship with Him. This is why He created us in relationship to him (in His image), to have a relationship with him (in His likeness).

We as believers believe that at one time, mankind had a perfect relationship with God that was severed with the fall of man. We also believe however, in a God who does not give up on his creation. We believe that the God who created us entered the world through his son Emmanuel (God with us) and through his Holy Spirit invites us back into a relationship with him. And what’s more, no matter what your circumstances are or what your physical location is, you can enter into a relationship with the God who created you, who deeply loves you, and who is waiting for you. All you have to do is to enter His sacred space. How do you do that? It is simple, “sacred space” is found whenever you want to and wherever you are. Although God exists outside of time, space, and matter, He is willing to enter time, space, and matter to meet you anywhere in the universe at any time.

“When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. “When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. “Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree. “I’ll turn things around for you. I’ll bring you back from all the countries into which I drove you”—God’s Decree— “bring you home to the place from which I sent you off into exile. You can count on it.  – Jeremiah 29:12-14 MSG

Questions:

  1. How do you believe the universe came into existence?
  2. Where do you believe time, space, and matter came from?
  3. Why do you believe God created you?
  4. How, where, and when can you enter into God’s presence?
