All The Glory!
For a moment let’s analyze the way we think about our relationship with God. Does it look something like this, “Lord give me, Lord why? Lord what for?” Isn’t it true that if God doesn’t act the way we think He should, if He doesn’t conform to our agenda we get mad at Him? Isn’t it also true that if we’ve behaved well or made some kind of sacrifice, someway or somehow we think He owes us? I go to church every Sunday; I even give my tithes so now God owes me a prosperous, healthy life. Generally speaking isn’t that the way we relate to God?
How should God react when his greatest creation, mankind, created in His image and likeness with the maximum potential to reflect His glory instead of reflecting His Glory hijacks it for themselves? What should God do in this situation? What would you have done? The answer will probably surprise you. God takes the tragedy of sin, the hijacking of His glory and uses it as a means to bring the glory back to himself. God dives right into the middle of the tragedy of our sins to express one more time and for all time the he deserves all the glory. God would claim His glory while at the same time teaching us that only He deserves the glory.
Lets read God’s reaction to our betrayal.
Philippians 2:1-11 NIV
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! 9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,11and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Jesus, why did you humble yourself? Why did you become a servant to traitor mankind? Why did you die as a criminal on a cross for us? Did you get the last verse? Look at the answer, to the glory of God the Father. Once and for all God would show that He deserves all the Glory. God said to Jesus, I’m sending you to earth to regain my glory. Here’s how we’re going to do it, you will humble yourself, serve and die for them. To which we think, that’s not what I would have done in that situation. To which God would say, that’s precisely the point; I’m not the God you think I am. I did what no one else would do. Do you want to know why I did it? So that I could gain back my glory once and for all. So that there would be no question as to who deserves all the glory.
When the king is willing to die for His people it doesn’t speak of the glory of the people it speaks to the glory of the king. It’s Simple to God be all the glory forever!
Heavenly Father, you are the Glorious One. You fill my life. You give me hope. And I am yours forever.
