An Ever Changing World
Thursday September 24, 2015
Our world is constantly changing. In the past 50 years, we have seen traditional families morph into modern families. Marriage has been redefined so that it no longer is a union between a man and a woman it now includes same-sex marriages. What was once illegal is now legal and vice versa. Religious behavior has turned irreligious and irreligious conduct is now religious. What was once immoral is now acceptable while moral behavior is readily ridiculed. These changes might be reason to worry but there is a bigger change happening in our culture that worries me more than all of the above. What concerns me most is the manner in which the followers of Jesus have changed and the way in which the church of Christ has changed.
The Christian church today church has gone from having a God-centered belief system to a self-centered belief system. There was once a time when followers of Jesus came to church to bless Him, now they come to church so that He can bless them. There was a time when followers of Jesus came to listen to God, now they want God to listen to them. Christians use to obey Gods’ commands now they want to command Him. It use to be that attending a church activity was a blessing, now many see it as a sacrifice. There was a day when believers let God use their talents and abilities, now they expect God to pay for the use of them. The cross was once looked at as a symbol of their salvation now followers see their goodness as their salvation. However, it does not matter how much followers of Jesus may change, God remains the same.
Hebrews 13:8 NIV
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
God will always bless those who bless Him.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. – Psalms 84: 4 NIV
Those who seek God will always find Him.
“I love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me.” – Proverbs: 8:17 NLT
He will always guide those who listen to Him.
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
– John 10:27-28 NIV
God blesses those who dwell in His house.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. – Psalms 23:6 NIV
God repays those who serve Him.
Jesus replied, “and I assure you that everyone who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or property, for my sake and for the Good News, will receive now in return a hundred times as many houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and property—along with persecution. And in the world to come that person will have eternal life. – Marcos 10: 29-30 NVI
God saves those who come to the cross.
The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. – 1 Corinthians 1:18 NLT
God never changes; the world is always changing, people are always changing but He remains the same.
Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I’ve allowed this changing world to guide me, this world that now calls good evil and evil good. Deliver me from falling into the temptation of selfishness, save me by your great love and mercy, Lord, that I may praise with a sincere and grateful heart for I do not deserve such a great salvation.
