Be The Right Person

One of the most frustrating things one can do is to try to get others to see the world as we see it. Like trying to get your spouse to see their time, health, and money the way you see them. Or getting your children to see school, friends, time, and money the way you see it; you try to get them to see the priorities in their lives the same way you see them, particularly when they do not fully understand the concept of life and the consequences of their decisions. Therefore, at times, our only hope is that eventually, they will grow up and learn to see the world the way we see it.

Often times the same is true concerning our relationship with our Heavenly Father. God says in the Book of Isaiah, that our thoughts are not His thoughts, and our ways are not His ways. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are God’s thoughts higher than ours. However, central to those of us who believe in God is to see life the way He sees it and not the way we see it. In our world, achievements and net worth are what we celebrate and aim for. As a result we measure success based upon external and temporal things like the house we live in, our car, the clothes we wear, the restaurants we eat at, how much money we earn, and what we have personally achieved. There is nothing wrong with this. However, there is one problem, God is not concerned with your achievements; He is concerned about the person you are becoming. We have a tendency to be concerned with having and achieving and God is more interested in what we are doing and who we are becoming.

Proverbs 22:1 NIV

Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.

As believers, our ultimate goal should be to see our lives the way God sees it. He does not measure our success based on the size of our bank accounts or the many accomplishments we achieve. From God’s perspective, what matters is who we are and who we are becoming. My prayer is that we begin to see as God sees so that eventually, we can do as He says we should do.
