There is no greater challenge to your faith than walking in God’s divine purpose for your life. Pursuing any purpose requires faith. Pursuing God’s divine purpose for your life requires greater faith. Divine purpose will stretch, test, and at times even deplete your faith.

It was around the age of eleven or twelve when I first realized God had created me with some sort of divine purpose. I recall walking around thinking to myself; wow, God really does exist and has a plan for my life! I also remember hearing that God’s purpose would require that I surrender my life to Him. In other words, it was going to require faith. I would have to trust that what God wanted me to do with my life, was better than what I wanted to do with it. God’s purpose would require that I trust Him with everything that I had. I decided the best thing for me to do was to trust God. Therefore, I surrendered everything that I had, which at the age of eleven, as you can imagine, was not much.

As I look back now that I am an adult, it is easy to see how God has greatly blessed me for trusting Him and surrendering to Him the few things that I had. When I was a child, pursuing God’s divine purpose required a small amount of faith. I repeat; God has greatly blessed me. I have a family, a house, a couple of cars, a bank account, and many other valuable possessions. Pursuing God’s divine purpose in adulthood however, challenges my faith to the point of exhaustion. It is one thing to pursue God’s divine purpose when all you have to do is to surrender a couple of G.I. Joes or a few matchbox racecars. Crazy as this may sound; it is quite difficult to sustain a faith-walk when pursuing His purpose and trusting Him begins to pay off. It is easy to shift our faith from the God that blessed us and place our trust on the blessings He has given us. In adulthood, to move forward in our divine purpose will require a greater amount of faith.

This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

Our ability to go the distance and fulfill God’s purpose for our lives will depend on us having a growing and maturing faith. Truth be told, it is easier to have faith in God when we do not have much to entrust to Him. However, when your faith begins to manifest itself in visible, tangible blessings, then there comes the temptation to shift strategies and take control. This would be a grave mistake!
