We need to face up to the fact that we are living in evil days. What once was good is now bad. What use to be bad is now good. Present-day standards reward politicians based on their ability to lie and not on telling the truth. Immorality is good and abstinence bad. Politicians legislate and voters now vote on making drugs, which were once illegal, legal. There was a time when identifying oneself as a Christian was good. However, today this can get you mocked, raped, tortured, and even killed in some places. Just ask David Curry, President of “Open Doors”, an organization dedicated to equipping persecuted Christians around the world.
Christian Persecution at Biblical Proportions
Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world. Approximately 100 million Christians are persecuted worldwide. The level of exclusion, discrimination, and violence against Christians in some countries has risen to a level akin to ethnic cleansing. David Curry /President- Open Doors
Ephesians 5:15-17 NIV
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
The Apostle Paul is writing to a group of believers in Ephesus who knew all too well the evils of persecution. One would think he would rally the Christians to unite and fight against this persecution or at least to peacefully oppose it. However, he does something very counter-intuitive; he tells them to focus on God’s will for their lives instead of making people’s evil behavior their main focal point. Simply stated, God wants us to face up to the fact, that there are areas in our lives in which His will is not being fulfilled. There are things we out not be doing and things that we should be doing. It is easy to point fingers in evil days especially when the evil is so blatant. However, in the midst of evil days, the best thing that we can do is to face up to the fact that there are areas of our lives that we are not living wisely.
Please allow me to offer you a simple two-part exercise that I call “face up”. I hope you will make it a part of your life. First, work on yourself before working on someone else. Second, work on yourself more, then work on anyone else.
