Finding Purpose Day 02

“Spiritual emptiness is a universal disease.” – Rick Warren

Most people believe or at least hope that there is more to life than their daily routine. In the past the routine was to work hard to build a career and attain financial security. But then what? In the present the routine is to experience life, to work the least possible and save little to no money in order to spend the money socializing and partying as much as possible. Again I ask, then what? They call this living when in fact they are merely existing. But eventually for most people there comes a yearning for something more than merely existing. There’s the need to know that their life matters and that they have a purpose.

Everyone bets their life on something, some bet their life on hard work and financial security and others bet their life on experiencing the pleasures of life. But others bet their life on the belief that God has created us all on purpose and for a purpose. I choose to bet my life on the belief that everyone was created by God, that everyone matters to God, and that everyone is supposed to be part of a plan that goes far beyond our daily existence. I choose to believe that we’re part of God’s eternal story of redemption and love.

“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,”[  says the Lord God. “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come—the Almighty One.” – Revelations 1:8 NLT

Imagine that you have never seen a telephone, how would you know what its purpose is? Or imagine having never seen a baseball bat, how would you know what its purpose is? If you want to find the purpose for something just ask its creator. If you want to find your purpose then you’ll have to ask your creator. It’s not until you begin living out your created purpose that you will begin to go beyond existing and truly living your life.
