Growing Through Personal Discipline

Friday, January 24

Personal discipline is the will to do what we should do instead of what we want to do. This is no new revelation. We all know that if we want to lose weight we need to be disciplined. If we want to advance scholastically or in business it takes personal discipline. The same is true when it comes to our spiritual growth. We need to prioritize. We need to be disciplined.

When our priorities get off center, it causes us to stop growing. Before we know it, we’ve allowed a shift to take place in the things that are important to us. A telltale sign that our priorities have shifted is the presence of self-involvement, indifference, fear and even sin. It’s going to take personal discipline to keep our priorities straight. Especially when there are so many distractions, be it opportunities or troubles.

I would like to leave you with some exercises that will cause you to have consistent spiritual growth.
But it’s going to take personal discipline.

1. Pray
2. Study God’s Word
3. Fellowship – don’t just attend church
4. Be generous

Now it’s up to you.

Bible reading
Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Heavenly Father, help me to make my priorities your priorities.
