I have a tendency to think that God sees me the same way that I see myself. If for instance I am having a good spiritual, moral, or ethical day, I tend to be happy with myself and therefore think that God must be happy with me too. Likewise, when I feel like I am having a bad spiritual, moral, or ethical day, I have a tendency to feel disappointed with myself and so I think that God is disappointed in me as well. I have a habit of thinking that based on my behavior and performance, based on what I do and do not do, that my conduct would affect the way God sees me. I will venture to guess that many of you also feel the same way as I do.

 

Today, I would like to share with you how God sees you. Perhaps your initial thought is to think that because I do not know you, then I could not possibly know how God sees you. The reason for this is that you think God sees you the way you see yourself. You think that God sees you in accordance with the way in which you behave and act. Truthfully, when God sees you He loves you. There is nothing that you can do that will cause God to love you any more, or any less than He already does. God does not love you because of the things you do. He will always love you no matter what you do.

 

Romans 5:8 NIV

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

 

God’s decision to demonstrate His love for us in the past had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with our behavior. Presently, the way God sees you has nothing to do with the way you are acting or behaving. He loves you not just because of who you are, but because of who He is. There are times when in order to move forward, we need to look back at the cross and be reminded that God loves us in spite of our behavior and not based on our good or bad conduct. We can either choose to embrace His love or allow the way we see ourselves to cause us to miss out on His great love. From time to time, we need to be reminded that He could not possibly love us any more and that He will never love us any less.
