Each Sunday, Christians throughout the world gather to lift the name of the Lord on high. However, some are so concerned with the way they look that it causes them to arrive late while others simply oversleep. Others become upset upon arrival when they see that someone is sitting in their spot. For others, it is either too hot or too cold; the music too loud, the service is too long… Makes me wonder why they come in the first place. Are they concerned with Gods glory or their own?

Roughly, two thousand years ago, the people of the Lord who were supposed to reflect Gods glory found themselves enslaved in Egypt. As a result, the glory of the Lord had virtually disappeared from the face of the earth. God speaks to a man named Moses and instructs him to go to the Pharaoh in Egypt and tell him to “let my people go so that they might worship me”.

Key verses 11-15

 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.” Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am”… This is my name forever,

the name you shall call me from generation to generation.

God told Moses that He was going to deliver His people and Moses first concern was with himself, and his second concern was with God. Moses asked God: who am I? Then he asked: what is your name?

What is your name?

 I highly recommend you read the entire chapter. God answered Moses by stating: I am who I am and this will be my name forever. This means that even today for you and I, Gods name is:

• I am God.
• I have seen the suffering.
• I have heard the prayers.
• I have seen the oppression.
• I have come to save.
• I am sending you.
• I am who I am, I am at the center of it all, I am in charge of the plan, I am their savior, I am today, tomorrow, and forever.

Who am I?

Notice how God answered Moses’ second question first. It seems pointless to address the first question after hearing Gods response to the second question. Nevertheless, let us answer it because it is relevant to us. Why is it relevant? Because you, Moses and I, actually everyone has the same name.

• i am not God.
• i cannot do anything about their suffering.
• i cannot answer their prayers.
• i cannot free them from their oppressions.
• i cannot save them.
• i cannot go on my own
• i am not the center of it all, i am not in charge of the plan, i am not their savior.

Heavenly Father, I want to surrender all of my sufferings and oppressions to you, because only you can save and give me a way out. Be the great “I AM” of my life.
