When do you feel you are at your best? When do you feel happiest? The answer to these two questions is what gives purpose and meaning to your life. The answer to these questions is what gives you a reason to wake up each morning. By answering these questions correctly, you will discover the reason for your existence. So, do not just give these questions a cursory glance. Think carefully about your answers; think about them throughout the day. When is it that you feel at your best, when do you feel happiest?
I feel at my best when: ________________________.
I feel happiest when: ________________________.
In Biblical and secular history, King David having defeated all of Israel’s enemies, is revered as one of the most renown, valiant, and conquering warrior of all times. Despite this, it was not in the midst of the battle or during the thrill of victory when David felt happiest. King David was also a musician, a composer, and a poet who is credited with writing the majority of the Biblical psalms. There exists no other composer in the history of mankind more successful than David. More artists and praise and worship leaders have recorded David’s compositions than the compositions of any other composer. You cannot turn on a Christian radio station without hearing one of his compositions multiple times each day. David’s poems and psalms are read, recited, and studied more than any one else’s in human history. However, David did not feel at his best or happiest when he was busy composing or when he completed one of his masterpieces. King David was at his best and happiest when his body and soul were in the presence of God.
Psalms 84:1-2, 4-5, 10-12
How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of Heaven’s Armies. I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God.
What joy for those who can live in your house, always singing your praises. What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord.
A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, what joy for those who trust in you.
