Intimacy Broken

Thursday, February 20th

The one thing that God most desires is to have an intimate relationship with you. In the beginning, when God created man that’s exactly what He had…a relationship based on mutual acceptance, no rituals, no traditions, and no religions. A relationship based on mutual trust. But that intimate relationship ran into a problem. A lie would surface that would cause the relationship to be broken. It was a lie that caused mankind to feel ashamed and to hide from God. It’s a lie that we all struggle with every day, a lie that causes some to keep their distance from God and a lie that causes others to hide from Him.

The lie that broke intimacy with God in the beginning is the same lie we must deal with today…that God cannot be trusted.

You see, God created Adam and Eve, blessed them and gave them Lordship over the earth. Then He told them, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” One day Eve with Adam present was contemplating this tree and the serpent told her: “You will not die, God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” On that day, the lie that broke intimacy was introduced. It is the lie that many struggle with till this day, that God cannot be trusted. The lie is in believing that what you will gain by not trusting is greater than what you will lose. That somehow you’re going to miss out on something. Well, we know what happened. Both Adam and Eve decided that God could not be trusted and they went ahead and ate from the tree. The result was broken intimacy. Now, for the first time mankind is ashamed and find themselves hiding from God.

Every day you and I must deal with this same lie and we must ask ourselves, can God be trusted? Can I trust him with my, finances, my marriage, my time…. If the answer is yes, we are on the way to building an intimate relationship with God. If we choose not to trust God then it’s intimacy broken.

Bible reading
Genesis 3:9-10

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?” He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

Heavenly Father, help to reject the lie that you cannot be trusted, and help me to place my trust in you each and every day. Understanding that in trusting you there is nothing to loose and everything to gain.
