Every so often, God will ask you to move outside of your comfort zone. He will cause you to move from that position in which you feel secure by asking you to do something that will make you feel uncomfortable and insecure. When this happens, your problem will not be that you disagree with God. Your problem will be that what God is asking you to do exceeds your ability and knowledge. You will understand and even agree with the task, but when you take inventory of your capabilities the tendency will be to say, Lord I am willing but I am afraid that you have the wrong person. Throughout your life, God will lead you to situations that will require your faith to meet His faithfulness.

 

It was nearing the end of the day and Jesus had just finished teaching a crowd of five thousand men not counting women and children. The disciples approached him and said, “it’s late”, and that He should dismiss the crowd so that they could go into town and purchase food to eat. However, Jesus said, that is not necessary-you feed them. The disciples quickly took inventory of their resources and objected, “We only have five loaves of bread and two fish.”

“Bring them here to me,” he said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

 

Jesus created the dilemma and turned the disciples request into an impossible situation by asking them to accomplish something that was beyond their capabilities. However, the situation afforded Him the opportunity to teach them a heavenly lesson. The lesson being, when God calls you to accomplish something that exceeds your capabilities, rest assured He will provide the necessary resources and power to accomplish it. However, you must first, be willing to bring to Him whatever abilities, resources, and knowledge you have. Then, He will make the impossible possible, just as he fed the crowd of five thousand (not counting women and children) with just five loaves of bread and two fish.

 

If God is prodding you in any area of your life to move out of your comfort zone, be it in your finances, marriage, ministry… it is your responsibility to do your very best, stand back, and watch God do the rest. When faith is activated and it encounters God’s faithfulness, then the impossible becomes possible.
