More Choices

One of the benefits of a modern society is that there are more choices than ever before. One of the downsides of a modern society is that with more choices comes more indecision and when you’re not sure what the right choice is, that can be stressful.

Recently I stopped by a drugstore to purchase some cold medicine and there was an entire aisle of different cold medicines to choose from. Some were for colds, others for colds and the flu. Some were for daytime others were for nighttime. Some were low glycemic. Some were in a liquid form, some were tablets and others were gel capsules. Some were regular strength, some were extra strength and others were maximum strength. As you can imagine choosing the right medicine was stressful to say the least. The same thing happens in most every area of life, just go to a coffee shop and order a coffee; there are so many choices. I actually remember when ordering coffee was much simpler, it was with milk or without milk with sugar or without sugar. I’m not against choices, quite the contrary but with more choices than ever before, making simple decisions can be quite stressful.

In a modern society there is no shortage of experts for anything you want to know or do. One expert will tell you one thing and the other will tell you another thing. When you’re not sure what the right choice is for your life, that can be quite stressful because not all choices are black and white, not all choices are between right and wrong. So how do we know if we’re making or how to make the right choices for our finances, our health and our loved ones? How do we know if we’re making the right choices morally and spiritually?

Go to God for guidance.

I’m going to share with you a question through witch you can filter all of your indecisions and hopefully it will help you to choose correctly in every area of your life.

Is this a wise choice for me?

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. – Ephesians 5:15-17 NIV

Let God lead you, guide you through His word and if you’re still not sure what the right choice is I have good news for you, God has given us a simple question through which we can filter all of our indecisions. What is the wise choice for me? Simple. The question should not be, is it a sin or not? If it’s a sin it’s wrong so don’t do it. The question should be, is this a wise choice for me? Let me illustrate this. The question should not be, is smoking a sin or not? The question should be, is smoking a wise choice for me? The question should not be, should I buy this or not? The question should be, is buying this a wise choice for me? When you read God’s word and can’t find the answer, God has left us the most important question we could ask ourselves when we’re not sure what we should do. Is this a wise choice for me?

Psalms 23: 1-3 NIV

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

It’s simple, in a world filled with many choices, allow God to be your main source for guidance. Seek the wise choice.

Heavenly Father, thank you that among so many options you gave me the key to knowing whether it’s within your will and it will be a wise decision for me, you guide me along paths of righteousness for your name’s sake, so I have nothing to be afraid of if I let myself be guided by you.
