Opportunity – Riding the Wave

We live our lives in seasons. Solomon wrote in the Book of Ecclesiastes, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to tear down and a time to build .” And in each one of these stages, God wants to do something good in your life. The Apostle Paul wrote in the Book of Romans, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” In every season of life, there will be opportunities, and good things happen when readiness meets opportunity.

As a child, I loved going to the beach and riding the waves on a paddleboard. When I first started riding the waves I would jump on every wave that came by. But I quickly learned that some waves are just not worth riding. But every so often a big wave would come by and I needed to be ready to ride that one. Sometimes I would ride the smaller waves and by the time I repositioned myself, instead of catching the bigger wave it ended up knocking me down. In many ways the opportunities in our life are like the waves in the ocean in that we don’t create them, we don’t know exactly when they’re coming, and not all waves are worth riding. But, if you’re going to ride the bigger waves you must be ready for them if not they may just knock you down.

In every season of life, good things are what happen when readiness meets opportunities. But how do you know which wave to ride, which opportunity is the right one? Simple, instead of praying for God to bless what you’re doing start praying for God to help you to do what he’s a blessing.
