Others First

English / Devotional

Did you know that the Bible teaches us that everything that God gives us is for the benefit of others? Did you know that God wants us to consider the needs of others as more important than our own needs? God loves to bless us as his children. God loves to answer our prayers. It is God’s delight to give us the desires of our hearts. But everything God has given us even life itself is supposed to be utilized to benefit others.

Philippians 2:3,4 NIV

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Whoever wants to be first among you, let him be your servant. For the Son of Man came not to be cared for. He came to care for others. – Jesus (Matthew 20:27-28 NLV)

A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. – 1 Corinthians 12:7 NLT

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. – 1 Peter 4:10 NIV

I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved. – 1 Corinthians 10:33 NLT

Freely giving is the most powerful demonstration of love. Jesus said, “for God so loved the world that he gave…”. As children of our Heavenly Father the Bible instructs us to use everything we have, our gifts, talents, abilities, wealth and even the words we speak to benefit others. God created us to be both spiritual and physical beings, and He wants to love us both spiritually and physically. To demonstrate His love for us in the spiritual realm God has chosen His Holy Sprit. But to demonstrate His love for us in the physical realm God has chosen those of us who call him Heavenly Father. We have been chosen to be a physical and tangible expression of God’s unconditional love to others.

It’s simple, you and I are instruments of God’s love to others.

Heavenly Father, what an honor and a privilege to be chosen as a vessel for your love. Help me to identify more opportunities to serve and care for others. I know that’s what Jesus wants me to do.
