Password: NEVERFORGET

Having to remember so many passwords is one of the downsides to living in a modern society. We need passcodes to access our computers, cellphones, bank accounts, credit cards, emails, airlines, schools, and doctors… For just about anything and everything we are required to memorize a password. Some of these passwords are extremely important while others are of far less importance. There are some passwords that are fine to forget but there are others we should never forget. The same is true in all areas of our lives; there are things that are okay to forget and there are things we should never forget.

The one thing no follower of Jesus should ever forget is that God has forgiven all of our sins. We have the tendency to forget that our sins whether big or small were on a scalable mountain. They were a debt we had no way to pay, a debt that had become a barrier between God and us. We forget that the reason the barrier no longer exists is that Jesus took our place on the cross in order to remove that barrier that stood between God and us.

Rarely do we pause to look back to remember how disconnected we were from God. We are living in a generation in which we are constantly overwhelmed by personal “injustices”, yet we almost never become overwhelmed by the injustice that Christ had to endure because of our sins. The truth is that if God never did anything else for us, He has already done far more than we could have ever hoped for.

Psalms 103: 1-3 NIV

Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins

As we look forward to a New Year, it will probably serve us well to remember that in order to move forward we need to look back at what God has done for us. There are things we should forget and there are things we should never forget. As we navigate the highs and lows that will come this New Year, in everything, we should always remember the password: NEVERFORGET. Never forget what God has done for us through Christ Jesus.
