Seeking to be Happy

With all the liberalism, religions, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, and medications available today, one would think that people would feel happy. This generation has more than previous generations, yet we cannot seem to find consistent and true happiness no matter how hard we try. This is more than likely due to the fact that we are looking for happiness in all the wrong places, people, and things. True happiness however, can only come from above and there is only one proven source of happiness. A recent study conducted by the Pew Research Center concluded that people who seek God daily through prayer and weekly church attendance are far more happier than those who sought out happiness elsewhere.

If happiness is your goal, you are never going to be truly happy, at least not if you are searching for it in this world. True happiness is something that only God can produce in you. The problem however is that it is not enough to just believe in God you must also seek Him. King David wrote in the Book of Psalms, The Lord looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. (Psalms 14:2 NLT) True happiness comes when we believers dedicate ourselves to seeking God. It is not enough to believe in God, happiness is found by continually seeking Him.

Many people including believers, when seeking happiness, mistakenly believe that their happiness will be found in a destination or an achievement. Consider the way believers pray, we are constantly asking God to help us get somewhere or achieve something. What many have discovered is that the happiness found in a destination or achievement is temporary and eventually fades away. True happiness is found when we realize that nothing or nobody other than God can ever make us completely happy.

Matthew 5:4 NKJ

“Happy are those who mourn, God will comfort them!”
