Simple or complicated?

How would you describe your life? When was the last time you felt you had breathing room? Do you feel like your relationships are running on all cylinders? Do you feel like your finances are under control? Do you feel like there are not enough hours in the day? Do you feel at peace and totally connected to God? Let me sum it up with one more question; is your life simple or complicated? Based upon these questions, for most people the answer would be…complicated.

The problem with living complicated lives is that eventually it leads to all sorts of relational, physical, emotional and even spiritual problems. I know far too well the results of living overwhelmed, overscheduled and exhausted. The interesting thing is that Christ showed up in this word not just to save us but to simplify our lives.

Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

We tend to believe that if we organize and reorganize external matters our lives will become simpler, but according to this passage the problem lies inside, in our souls. According to this passage we must do two things. First, trade in our burdens for what burdens Jesus. Second, allow Jesus to teach us how to reorganize our lives.

Heavenly Father, help me to live the simple life that is offered to me through your son Jesus. I ask you to reorganize what is happening in my soul as I choose to remove my yoke and accept yours, as I choose to live my life based upon your teachings and not my own understanding.
