THE POWER OF YOUR BELIEFS

The human brain is the most advanced computer system in the world and is also the most fascinating and multifaceted part of the body. Weighing in at only 3 pounds, yet it controls every aspect of the body. The brain is also the fastest organ in the body and it contains 100 billion neurons, a trillion cells and about 150,000 miles of blood vessels. No other system in the world is more complex and advanced than the human brain.

No one has ever fully used up all the memory space housed within the brain. It is said that the brain has a memory capacity, which is equivalent to that of four or five terabytes. But as powerful as the human brain is, we can always program or deprogram what we choose to believe. This means that we have power over what we believe. It’s important for us to understand, however, that what we choose to believe will have power over us.

In the 1970s Sam Shoeman’s doctors diagnosed him with terminal liver cancer. He was told that he had just three months to live and within the three months period, he passed away. Unfortunately for Sam, his doctors got it wrong, because the autopsy revealed that Sam had just a tiny tumor encapsulated in His liver. In other words, Sam did not die of cancer; he died as a result of believing that he had cancer.

Studies have established beyond any doubt that if you believe you’re sick you can actually make yourself sick. And the same studies also reveal that the power of suggestion can improve your health. It’s what science calls the placebo effect. Now, placebos cannot produce miracles, but they can produce measurable positive physical effects. The placebo effect could have made the difference between life and death for Sam. Because even though we have power over what we believe, what we believe also has power over us.

For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. – Proverbs 23:7 NKJ
