Things Are Not Going Well
Running from God is never a smart choice. One of the many things that I’ve learned over my many years as a pastor is that there’s a pattern that develops in the lives of those who run from God. Maybe not initially but eventually those who run from God pay a high price.
One of the most famous fugitives in the Bible was a man called Jonah. One day God sent Jonah a message telling Him to go and preach to the people of the city of Nineveh, but Jonah bought himself a ticket on a ship and boarded it going in the opposite direction in order to run from God. Everything was going well but the Lord caused a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart. The ship’s sailors, who were terrified, discovered that the reason for the storm was that Jonah had decided to flee from the Lord.
Jonah 1; 11-15 NIV
“What should we do to you to stop this storm?” 12“Throw me into the sea,” Jonah said, “and it will become calm again. I know that this terrible storm is all my fault.”
13Instead, the sailors rowed even harder to get the ship to the land. But the stormy sea was too violent for them, and they couldn’t make it. 14Then they cried out to the Lord, Jonah’s God. “O Lord,” they pleaded, “don’t make us die for this man’s sin. And don’t hold us responsible for his death. O Lord, you have sent this storm upon him for your own good reasons.” 15Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once!
Things Do Not Go Well For Those Who Run From God.
In my capacity as a pastor I’ve seen too often the consequences of those who choose to run from God. I’ve seen it in the person who ran from God into a marriage and returns years later, divorced and with children. I’ve seen it in the man who ran from God into a business and a few years later returned bankrupt. I’ve seen it in all kinds of situations in which people ran from God to later return with all kinds of problems and issues. Things don’t go well for those who run from God.
The reason things don’t go well for those who run is that God takes the everyday things of life and twists them in such a way as to cause you to have to return to Him. You need to understand that there is a direct connection between running from God and things not going well. It’s not just a coincidence that the problems you’re going through there is a direct link between running from God and the problems that you’re going thru. There is a solution, there is a way out. Turn back and stop running from God and run to Him. You what you will find is that your Heavenly Father is waiting for you to celebrate you’re return.
It’s Simple, things do not go well for those who run from God.
Heavenly Father it would be so foolish of me to think I can run away from you and you will not find me, you fill it all and there’s nowhere you cannot find me, plus it’s so simple to avoid violent storms when instead I run to you. I want things to go well and approaching you is the best way to make it happen.
