I have to confess that I’m not very good when it comes to managing my time. I’ve actually scheduled myself to meet with three different people, in three different places at the same time. I know I’m a pastor but only God is omnipresent. When it comes to the way we manage our time, most of us don’t accomplish everything we set out to do. If it’s not something that doesn’t get done, it’s a place we don’t have enough time to go to or worse it’s someone we’re not able to see. The problem is that having too many things to do and not enough time eventually leads to all sorts of complications.

When it comes to living a simple life, taking hold of your schedule is a must. For the most part, you determine how your time will be spent but there’s a bunch of other people who also want some valuable minutes of your time: your spouse, your children, your parents, your friends, or your boss just to name a few. Let’s be honest there’s no way you’re going to be able to satisfy everyone. Some things will remain undone, some places you will not be able to go to, and some people will not get enough of your time.
This is complicated, so what do we do? Before we answer this question lets look at two basic facts about our time.

First, our time limited.

You have decided the length of our lives. You know how many months we will live, and we are not given a minute longer.

Second, all of our time will be consumed.

I don’t need a Bible verse for this one. Every day we are given 24 hours and every single second of these hours will be consumed by day’s end.

In light of these facts it becomes obvious that we’re not going to be able to do everything we should, go every place we want to, or even spend time with everyone we desire to. So now, let’s get back to our question about what to do when it comes to managing our time. The answer is simple … we should prioritize.

Make sure you invest time in the most important things first and then use your remaining time to do the rest. And there is nothing more important then prioritizing God in your agenda.

What an amazing promise. Jesus says to us that if we prioritize our time with God, He himself will work on our behalf to give us all the other things we were not able to accomplish. It’s that simple.
