Today Matters

Today is the most important day of your life. For the most part, who you are today is the result of your past choices. Therefore, who you’ll become tomorrow will be determined by the choices you make today. Yesterday’s gone and tomorrow is not here yet, but what you do today for good or bad will determine your future. That is why today is the most important day of your life. So, don’t overstress over what happened yesterday, don’t overemphasize what may or not happen tomorrow and do not undervalue the importance of today.

Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience, God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts. – Hebrews 4:6-7 NLT

When God led the people of Israel out of Egypt into the desert the goal was to guide them some 125 miles to the Promised Land. But in the desert the people hardened their hearts towards God and because of their disobedience they wandered for 40 years in the desert. Sadly, that entire generation did not receive what God had promised them. The miracles that God performed to set them free were in the past, the Promised Land was in the future, and they had grossly underestimated the power of today.

Today, because of the disobedience of the people of Israel in the desert God has set a new and specific day to save us and lead us into his kingdom, and that certain day is TODAY. Today is the day that God has appointed for you, today is the day that God wants to lead you to something better. Not only heaven when you die, but today God wants to lead you to a better life, a better family, better finances, better health and a better relationship with Him. But today you will either choose to obey God or to harden your hearts. You can’t change yesterday but what you choose to do today will determine who and where you’ll be tomorrow. Today is not just any day, today is the most important day of your life because today is God’s appointed day for you. Today matters.
