Trapped

If is difficult to be happy when we are trapped in our lives. We get trapped in bad situations, a bad relationship, a job, and sometimes even financially. We get trapped in physical, spiritual and emotional issues. We get trapped in personal circumstances, bad habits, addictions, sadness, loneliness, discontentment, and even the past. We can free ourselves from many of these problems with some hard work and dedication. However, there are others that no matter how hard we try we just cannot shake free from them. The problem is that as long as we are trapped we can never be truly happy.

Happy are the meek. – Matthew 5:5 NIV

I think that we can all agree that there are some areas of our lives over which we have no control and feel trapped. These areas require more than a great effort they require divine intervention. These areas will require that we choose to commit all of our lives, the good and the bad to Christ, to His care, and to His control and this requires meekness, which many confuse with weakness. Simply stated, meekness means to surrender our lives to God, the only one who is truly in control.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

If you find yourself in a place in which you are feeling trapped and want to be set free, you will have to be meek and accept Jesus’ invitation. He said, “Come to me”, and I will give you rest, give me the control and watch what I can do. I will take all your burdens away I will set you free. What an amazing offer! For many however, this offer remains an unopened gift. Unopened because we think that in order to come to Christ we must first fix our own lives. It remains unopened because we think that once we know Christ it is up to us to fix our lives.

Choosing to be happy is making the choice to be meek. It is choosing to surrender all of our lives to Christ, our will, and our control.
