TEMPLES

The human body is the most advanced structure in the universe. It’s a miracle of biochemical engineering. Our bodies are made up of approximately 100 trillion cells that came from the division of one single cell. The human body has 12 systems and 78 organs working in perfect synchronization. The brain can hold five times as much information as the Encyclopedia Britannica. The heart circulates six quarts of blood through 60,000 miles of veins and capillaries. The liver performs over 400 functions, and the lungs have a surface area the size of a tennis court.

Some scientists believe an explosion, caused by an expansion in space 13.8 billion years ago, created the universe and that eventually certain elements produced by the explosion produced life and that part of that life evolved into human bodies. I choose to believe a more plausible and verifiable explanation, that our bodies were created by God. King David wrote some 3,000 thousand years ago, “I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are your works, And that my soul knows very well.” Psalms 139:14 NKJV

As we attempt to comprehend God’s workings described in the Bible we discover an important fact, that God always does things on purpose and for a purpose. That’s why I know that we’re not the result of a random explosion but rather we’ve been planned, designed and created by God for a specific purpose. And, the more we understand and live out that purpose, the more fulfilled our lives will become.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.  1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV

That’s just amazing, that our human bodies the most advanced structure in the universe was created to house a portion of the divinity of God. Understanding this is far more complex than understanding all of the operations of the human body. But just as we don’t ignore our human bodies because we can’t fully understand it’s operation, we should not ignore the fact that our bodies are temples in which God through his Holy Spirit wants to dwell in us.

Therefore, we should look to honor God with our bodies.
